The ECOFIN group

The ECOFIN group is a solution provider for banking and finance, retirement provisions, asset management for institutional investors and pension funds and sophisticated private clients, and financial planning. ECOFIN manages consultancy and development contracts, develops strategic concepts and provides software products. ECOFIN's aim is to work together with customers to find and implement innovative and efficient solutions.

Its success can be attributed to innovative ideas, a scientifically based understanding of complex problems in the field of asset management, the ability to position new solutions strategically and highly-qualified, motivated employees.

ECOFIN was founded in 1986 by Professor Dr. Martin Janssen. From the start, it worked on developing conceptional data models for structuring securities databases as well as calculating financial information (e.g. characteristic figures and ratios for options and futures).

ECOFIN participated in the definition of the index family for the Swiss stock exchange and started calculating the SMI® in 1987. It calculated the SPI® and bond indices from 1992 to 1996. Since 1991, ECOFIN has been advising institutional investors in Switzerland and the EU.

ECOFIN launched its first software solutions for banks, independent asset managers and insurance companies based on asset liability management in 2002.

Since 2003, ECOFIN has been working together with partners to organize comprehensive pension solutions for pension funds and pension schemes in the framework of Noventus PensionPartner AG.

In 2004 ECOFIN expanded its activities providing software solutions for the management and visualization of financial instrument and market data, statistical data and time series.

The ECOFIN group has approximately 45 employees (economists, software engineers, mathematicians, physicists, insurance mathematicians, pension fund experts and lawyers).

ECOFIN is in close contact with Zurich’s institutes of higher education, in particular with the Swiss Banking Institute of Zurich University, through teaching, supervising students’ work and through projects.
